Tom Berthold
A biologist with a PhD, Tom spent a long and successful career as corporate executive and entrepreneurial consultant in the Life Science industry, having lived and worked in Germany, Sweden and the USA and travelled numerous countries around the world.
Due to his passion for nature and geography, cameras where always in his backpack or slung around his shoulder wherever his travel took him. Getting to know and becoming inspired by the works of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Walker Evans, he turned from "Taking photos" to "Making photographs".
Since then, and instead of taking photos which capture the eye by their colors, he works in black & white, making photographs which express forms, textures and tonalities of his subjects - following the concept of "Lyrical Documentation" developed by Walker Evans.
He currently lives and works out of Sarasota, Florida.
